Best regards,
Okay, and here're the latest photography happenings !!! __________________________________________________________________________
1) The tremendous support that this mailing list has gathered surprised even me. We now have around 180 members on this list !!! Having more members on this list will mean that everyone can be informed of any courses held by any clubs, or new products in the market. Keep them coming !!! ********************** 2) I'd like to appeal to the in-charge of clubs (eg. Safra, Contax club, PhotoArt, school clubs and societies) to get in touch with me, so that I can help publicize your activities. ********************** 3) Did you know ?? In 1993 the National Geographic Society processed 46,769 rolls of film. That's 1,683,684 frames. In the same year, only 1408 photographs were published. That works out to 0.03 publishable images per roll, or 1 image published for every 33 rolls of film shot. Now your success rate doesn't feel so bad, does it ?? by Rich and Wendy Shevalier (samlex@enter.net) ********************** 4) Infra-red Photography If you're interested in infra-red photography, be sure to check out this website for many great links ! There are also loads of links to technical information about various equipment, it is difficult to find a page that has much more comprehensive info than this !!! http://www.a1.nl/phomepag/markerink/mainpage.htm ********************** 5) Legal eagles If you take a picture of a model, does the copyright of the picture
neccessarily belong to you ? Learn about the copyright issues and other
legal matters on this page !!
Warning: Legal rights vary according to countries, so the articles may not be completely applicable in Singapore. But do check them out for a better knoweldge of copyright issues. ********************** 6) Silicon implants If you are using silica gel beads to keep your equipment dry and safe from fungus, you might like to use this tip. Instead of pouring the silica gel into your dry-box, you can use the Fuji transparent film canister to store them. Pierce holes into the film canister (you can use a heated fork), but make sure they are not large enough for the beads to fall through. Then scoop the beads into the canister and cover them with the caps. Put a few of these canisters into the dry box. This method is much neater than pouring silica gel into the dry-box directly. It is painful to step on silica gel beads. Ouch !!! Also, another tip is to minimize the amount of air in the dry-box, so the silica gel can last longer. You can do this by putting in solid objects to fill up the empty spaces in the dry box to dispel the air. And always make sure you close the dry-box tightly and securely. You can heat the silica gel to reuse it when it turns pink. ************************ 7) New goodies from Canon !!
*EOS 3*
* EF 35mm f/1.4L USM *
* EF 100-400mm f/4-5.6L IS USM Zoom *
Similar to the EF 300mm f/4L IS lens, the new 100-400mm lens also provides users with 2 Image Stabilizing modes: one for stationary subjects and another for panning. This significantly increases the range of shooting conditions for which the lens is suitable, including panning shots of birds in flight and athletes or race cars in motion, as well as hand-held photography of stationary subjects. The panning mode works by shutting off IS in the panning direction, thus preventing the system from trying to compensate for intentional movement. By using Canon's exclusive Fluorite crystal and Super UD (ultra-low dispersion) glass lens elements, secondary chromatic aberrations are suppressed to an absolute minimum. The result is high-resolution and high-contrast images with exceptional color fidelity. The lens also provides a minimum focusing distance of 5.9 feet at all focal lengths, thus providing the capability to capture outstanding close-ups, especially at the 400mm setting. The EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM is compatible with Canon's 1.4x and 2x EF Extenders. * Power Drive Booster PB-E2 *
